# Search

GET https://app.defdex.io/api/v1/search

One ranked search across companies, agencies, offices, investors, research labs, programs, technologies and systems. Needs q or at least one filter. 1 credit per page. At most 1,000 results per query; past that the page says truncated and points to hello@defdex.io for bulk data.

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Create a key at https://app.defdex.io/developer/keys. Keep it private.

## Request

### Query parameters

- `q` (string, optional) — Name or alias contains this text (case-insensitive). Exact matches rank first.
- `type` (string, optional) — Comma-separated entity types: company, agency, office, investor, research_lab, other, program, technology, system.
- `parent` (string, optional) — An organization id or slug: return what sits under it (sub-organizations, offices, its programs and systems).
- `technology` (string, optional) — A technology id or slug: organizations and systems working on it or its sub-technologies.
- `country` (string, optional) — Two-letter ISO country code.
- `state` (string, optional) — Headquarters state or region (organizations).
- `limit` (integer, optional, default: 25) — Results per page, 1–100 (default 25). Each page costs 1 credit.
- `cursor` (string, optional) — next_cursor from the previous page. Keep the other parameters unchanged.

### 200

Success

- `data` (list of SearchHit, required)
- `next_cursor` (string, required, nullable)
- `build_id` (string, required) — The published build this page came from.
- `truncated` (boolean, optional) — True when more than 1,000 results match. Narrow the filters, or email hello@defdex.io for a bulk dataset.
- `bulk` (Bulk, optional) — Present when a query hits the 1,000-result cap or has no filter.

## Errors

### 400 Bad Request Error

Invalid parameter, missing filter or cursor, or the query exceeded its time budget. Narrow the filters.

### 401 Unauthorized Error

Missing, invalid or revoked key.

### 402 Payment Required Error

Out of credits for this billing cycle (only once limits are enforced).

### 403 Forbidden Error

Key lacks the required scope.

### 404 Not Found Error

Unknown entity, award, job or proposal.

### 409 Conflict Error

Published data changed during the read or pagination; restart from the first page.

### 429 Too Many Requests Error

Account request limit (or correction submission limit) reached.

### SearchHit

- `id` (string, required) — Entity id for /entities/\{id}: org:…, program:…, technology:… or system:….
- `type` (enum, required)
  - Allowed values: `company`, `agency`, `office`, `investor`, `research_lab`, `other`, `program`, `technology`, `system`
- `name` (string, required)
- `summary` (string, optional, nullable)
- `country` (string, optional, nullable)
- `url` (string, optional, nullable) — The public DefDex page.

### Bulk

Present when a query hits the 1,000-result cap or has no filter.

- `message` (string, optional)
- `email` ("hello@defdex.io", optional)
- `contact_url` (string, optional)
