Entities

One JSON document per company, agency, program, technology or system.

GET /api/v1/entities/{id} returns everything DefDex holds about one entity. Use an id from search. It costs 1 credit.

Use include to return only some sections, for example ?include=obligations,top_awards. id, type, name and url are always returned.

The zeros are placeholders. Real documents carry real figures.

Lists

Every list in a document is { "total": N, "items": [...] } and holds at most 10 items (25 for sources, budget lines and technology organizations). total is the full count. For the full lists, use the filtered endpoints: awards_list_url, /awards, /jobs and /search with parent or technology.

Dollars

Every amount says what it is. obligated_usd is net federal obligations from USAspending and can be negative or zero. announced_ceiling_usd is potential value, never spending. Budget lines are labelled requested or enacted. Amounts are JSON numbers in US dollars. Do not add figures that carry different labels.

Company totals roll up subsidiaries on exact UEIs and the parent reported on each action. See data quality.
